Philips Hue
Full Hue lighting control from Q-SYS
Comprehensive Philips Hue lighting control integration for Q-SYS. Manage rooms, zones, scenes, and individual lights with auto-discovery, HTTPS bridge communication, and rate limiting.
Complete Philips Hue lighting integration for Q-SYS, giving you full control over rooms, zones, scenes, and individual devices directly from your Q-SYS design. The plugin communicates locally with your Hue Bridge over HTTPS, so there is no cloud dependency and no internet required for day-to-day operation.
Automatic discovery handles the heavy lifting during setup. Once connected to a Hue Bridge, the plugin finds and organises all your rooms, zones, scenes, and devices into auto-updating dropdown lists. From there, you can control brightness, colour, white temperature, motion sensors, and smart plugs without leaving Q-SYS.
Device Control
- Rooms: Synchronised commands across physical spaces
- Zones: Manage custom-defined zones spanning multiple rooms
- Scenes: Activate pre-configured lighting scenes with per-room or per-zone filtering
- Brightness: Intensity adjustment from 0-100%
- Colour and White Temperature: Full colour selection and white temperature variants
- Motion Sensors: Boolean motion detection with temperature readout
- Smart Plugs: Power control for connected outlets
Smart Features
- Intelligent resource discovery automatically organises rooms, zones, scenes, and devices
- Secure HTTPS bridge communication with persistent token-based authentication
- Real-time state feedback via configurable polling intervals
- Smart polling optimisation that detects user interaction to balance responsiveness and network load
- Visual connection state and command execution feedback indicators
- Multi-page interface with purpose-built layouts for each control type
- Request queue system that respects Hue API rate limits
- Input debouncing to reduce unnecessary network traffic
- All control is local via direct HTTPS bridge communication
Interface Pages
- Setup Page: Bridge configuration, IP entry, authentication, and connection status
- Rooms Page: Power, brightness, and colour controls per room
- Zones Page: Zone-specific controls matching room page functionality
- Scenes Page: Scene activation with filtering by room or zone
- Dynamic selection dropdowns auto-update as resources are discovered
Licensing
One license key per core. Once licensed, you can use the plugin as many times as you like in your design.
Version History
- v1.3:
- Scene Activate buttons are now trigger controls. A scene fires cleanly from a single pulse, from a snapshot or preset recall, or from any trigger source wired into it.
- On the Rooms and Zones pages, the brightness fader now drives on and off. Drag a fader to the bottom and that group turns off. Turn a group off and its fader drops to zero, so the power button and the fader always agree. This makes it easy to build a lighting look from the faders and colours, store it in a Q-SYS snapshot or preset, and recall it later as one command per group.
- Presets and snapshots that change several rooms or zones at once now apply reliably. Previously, recalling a snapshot that set multiple zones could leave some of them unchanged.
- Turning a group on now keeps the brightness shown on its fader instead of jumping to 100%. If the fader is sitting at zero when you turn the group on, it comes on at full.
- Note for existing designs: re-pin the scene Activate buttons after updating, because the scene control changed type. If you have saved snapshots or presets of Rooms or Zones lighting looks, re-save them once after updating so they recall cleanly.
- v1.1:
- Added light switch support: use a physical Hue dimmer or smart button to trigger anything in your Q-SYS design, such as a lighting recall, AV scene, or room mode
- More reliable control when many commands fire at once, with less chance of dropped or out-of-order commands
- More predictable scene activation when triggered from elsewhere in the design
- Note for existing designs: the scene control was renamed, so any scene buttons wired to control pins need re-pinning after updating. Nothing else changes.
- v1.0: Initial release
